5 Content Marketing Trends To Keep Your Eye On

If you’re a content marketer, then you already know how important it is to stay on top of the latest trends. Algorithms are always changing, and the viewing public is always hungry for the next big thing. As such, doing things the same way you’ve always done them can lead to a serious drop in your return on investment. That’s why, if you’re looking to up your game you should pay attention to the following marketing trends.

Trend #1: Be Transparent With Your Content and Marketing

The whole goal of marketing is to get people to buy your product or service. However, instead of feeding your audience sweet nothings, Digital Marketing Institute points out that customers like it when you’re open and up-front with them. This is particularly true in the case of promotions tied to charity, as the buying public has become quite attentive about how much of their purchase goes to charity, which charity it goes to, etc.

Ask yourself if you have given your audience all the information they need. Because whether it’s sponsored content, giving to a good cause, or just reporting on the latest industry news, they’re going to want your bona fides and caveats to prove you’re on-the-level.

Trend #2: Reach Out To Micro-Influencers

Celebrity endorsements are nothing new, and businesses have carried that trend over to social media by asking influencers (typically those with several million followers) to endorse their products. According to Quick Sprout, though, businesses are getting much better results reaching out to micro-influencers (those who have between 1,000 and 100,000 followers on social media). Because while micro-influencers may have fewer people on their lists, a bigger percentage of those followers actually listen to them. As such, businesses get more bang for their buck.

Trend #3: Video Will Stay Important, Live Streaming Will Get Bigger

Video content has always been popular because it’s a technology that manages to trick the brain into thinking there is a person in front of you. However, while a video isn’t going anywhere, Digital Current predicts that live streaming video is going to become even more popular than it has been already. Streaming live allows for in-the-moment interaction, it provides genuine reactions, and it’s unscripted. This can help you really connect with your audience, and as more people gain the technology to interact with you, more people can be reached through this method.

Trend #4: Audience Experience Will Reign Supreme

You could have the best content in the world, but if you’re displaying it in a way that annoys your audience, they might still choose to walk away from it. So take a piece of advice from Inc., and look at how your audience is receiving your content. Do they have to wade through a bunch of ads to see it? Does your content load quickly? Do they have to search before they can find what they’re looking for? Perhaps most importantly, is your content mobile friendly? All of these things will be deciding factors when it comes to your audience’s interaction.

Trend #5: Engagement Will Continue To Be Important

If you create content, you’re only doing one-half of the job. You also need to engage with your audience and make them feel like they’re part of a dialogue. That means you need to be present on social media, you should be involved in your comment section, and you should do your best to avoid talking at your audience. You want them to feel like you’re talking to and with them because once you manage to do that, you can form a relationship with them that will make them followers instead of people standing in your audience.
